Well, here is the first cover of the first issue of Rabid Rabbit I’ve ever done.  It’s long overdue that I transfer the first 3 issues over and it will take some time, but it will happen.  This cover has also been touched up since I’ve been getting better at using Photoshop and coloring.  I’m still not a grand master by any means, but I do know I’ve improved a great deal.

Improvements:  Replaced Rabid’s old face with one that is a bit stronger and reflects the most recent drawings of him.  I still kept it close to the original face, but the old one just looked dumb.

I added more shading.  I’ve found that my drawings pop more if I use a mixture of black shading done at about 40% opacity and a white shading done at about 30%.  Many times I add extra shading layers at different opacities just to get that much more out of the basic colors I lay down.  I seem to always be playing with coloring techniques and I’m hoping some day soon I stumble upon a technique that is not only visually satisfying but also something I can do quickly.

I replaced the logo and the issue name text.  The old ones just didn’t stick out and ever since I took the time to create a really detailed clean logo for the website, I wanted to apply it more regularly to different issues.  Since this is the first one, i thought it only appropriate that it shows up here.  I seem to be following in my brother’s footsteps again, and usually every issue I create a whole new Rabid Rabbit title that hopefully fits the theme of the issue.  So far my favorite cover has to be the ultra detailed and completely inked cover for issue number 2.  I drew that while out on one of my caricature trips to New York (I think) and had my good buddy Sam ink it for me.  One of these days I am hoping to get him to draw his own unique guest cover so you can see how talented this bastard is.  Seriously… it’s almost a crime the artistic talent oozing out of this guys every orifice…. eeew.
